My dad was always making something out in the garage. It seemed to me that he had every tool ever made. When his birthday would come around, I would try my hardest to present him with a new tool. Browsing the tool section at Sears, I saw a small scroll saw. I knew he loved his band saw, but this would work for much smaller and more intricate cuts. When he finally passed many years later, the saw looked as thought it had never been used. I realized that My father, for all his talents, was not a patient man and rarely used the saw. I ultimately inherited the scroll saw and found the detail work quite relaxing. It wasn't long before I out grew the small Craftsman model and upgraded.
Since my initial scroll saw portrait, I have cut literally hundreds of pieces. working mostly from high grade 1/8" baltic birch plywood, I would cut anything that caught my eye. I soon tired from the use of catalog patterns and ventured into creating custom patterns. This ultimately led to commissioned work for clients all over the World. With their permission, I have included some of my commissioned work in the Custom Scroll Saw section.
Although I have sold items from standard patterns, it is the custom work from emailed photographs that I most enjoy.
Pricing:
My average price for a custom scroll saw portrait is about $35.00, however the price varies as a result of variables like shipping location, size, frame, and complexity/number of cuts.
